Chile. Coexistence of Differences.

I am writing just to talk with you,

and share my unanswered concerns,

about what separates Chileans now,

between good and bad.

Between rich and poor.

Among old people who 
don't seem to see what is going on,

and young people who believe

that everything they think is true,

without further analysis or discussion. 

The last writings of the lawyer Carlos Peña,

are the best interpretation that I have read

of the differences that always exist

between beliefs and thoughts of people that 
the more confused they are,

seem more irreconcilable. 

Forgive me if I inadvertently offend you

by telling you my doubts. 

It is a common place to pretend that trust

is gained when interests and objectives

of both parties in conflict,

are clear and coincide.

Because they never coincide. 

No one can guess or judge,

the motivations and intentions of others. 

What is certain is that the negotiations

that always have to be given to live in peace,

right now, between "good and bad" Chileans,

cannot turn out well, 
if both sides do not understand

that the other is not wrong,

but is simply very different

in everything that may be different,

and do not strive to destroy themselves. 

It is the will to fight,

that destroys the coexistence

of the different.

Chile. Convivencia de Lo Distinto.

Escribo solo para conversar contigo,

y compartir mis inquietudes sin respuesta,

sobre lo ahora separa a los chilenos

entre buenos y malos. Entre ricos y pobres.

Entre viejos que parecen no ver lo que ocurre,

y jóvenes que creen 
que todo lo que piensan es así,

sin mayor análisis ni discusión.

Los últimos escritos del abogado Carlos Peña,

son la mejor interpretación que leído

de las diferencias que siempre existen

entre las creencias y los pensamientos de las gentes

que cuanto más confusos están, 
parecen más irreconciliables.

Perdóname si te ofendo sin querer,

al decirte lo que pienso.

Es un lugar común pretender que la confianza se gana

cuando ambas partes en conflicto tienen claro

que sus intereses y los objetivos coinciden.

Porque nunca coinciden.

Nadie puede adivinar ni tampoco juzgar,

las motivaciones e  intenciones ajenas.

Lo que es seguro es que las negociaciones

que siempre se tienen que dar para vivir en paz,

ahora mismo, entre chilenos “buenos y malos”

no pueden resultar bien,

si ambas partes no entienden 
que la otra no está equivocada, 
sino que sencillamente es muy distinta 
en todo lo que puede ser distinto,

y no se empeñan en destruirse.

Es la voluntad de pelear 
lo que destruye la convivencia

de lo distinto.

Chile. In Times of Confusion.

         In Times of confusion let us not make changes.

         In time of crisis, may the people save the State.

         It is utopic to expect Chilean people

         to create a new order through direct social dialogue,

         bypassing the existing complex order

         that gives society its sense of existence.
